This essay looks at the hostility and racist attitudes between much of Israel’s Jewish majority and Arab minority. Complementing their look at the incitement in the Arab sector toward the Jewish population is their discussion of the contradictory posture by Israel’s government toward Arab citizens. While steps have been taken to encourage the economic integration of the Arab sector, other measures rebuff the sector’s social and political integration. The authors emphasize the need for law enforcement and determination in the educational system to combat racism and incitement, and the imperative of rejecting populist expressions of racism.
