in Strategic Survey for Israel 2012-2013, eds. Anat Kurz and Shlomo Brom, Tel Aviv: Institute for National Security Studies, 2013

The social protests of the summer of 2011 on the one hand, and the security challenges facing Israel on the other, have intensified the israeli debate on national expenditure priorities, pitting social welfare against defense needs. This essay presents an analysis of Israel’s national priorities as demonstrated in practice by the allocation of national resources between the military and civilian (public and private) sectors, based on the national accounting data published by the Central Bureau of Statistics.
