On this week’s episode of the National Security Podcast, Ariel Oseran and Dr. Yoel Guzansky from the Institute for National Security Studies explore what normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia means for both nations, what are the broader regional and global implications of such a historic agreement, and will incoming President Trump succeed where Biden did not.
Trends in Arab Public Opinion and Implications for Israel: A Conversation with Dr. David Pollock
Episode 42
A decade after a series of uprisings swept across the Arab world, what do citizens in these countries think about prospects for democracy, reform, and change? How come the Arab monarchies emerged from the regional upheaval in more stable condition than their republican counterparts, and to what extent did public opinion play a role? How do citizens in Arab countries view Israel? Dr. Sarah Feuer, INSS research fellow, sat down to discuss these and related questions with Dr. David Pollock, senior fellow at the Washington Institute and the author of “The Arab Spring Turns 10, Through the Prism of Public Opinion,” featured in the current volume of INSS’ flagship journal, Strategic Assessment.
Israel and Morocco – is it normalization?
Episode 40
In December Morocco became the fourth Arab state in four months to reach an agreement with Israel (after the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan) under US auspices. While this is a welcome development, seeing as Israelis can (and do!) regularly travel to Morocco, despite the lack of formal diplomatic relations between the states, what change can the new agreement be expected to deliver? What are the gains and what is the price that the deal combines for stakeholders? How is it being perceived internationally, regionally and locally? And given Morocco’s King Mohamed VI role in establishing and chairing the Al-Quds Committee of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference) can we expect to see active Moroccan involvement in future Israeli-Palestinian negotiations on the core issue of Jerusalem? Find out the answers to these questions and more in the conversation between two INSS Research Fellows, as Dr. Michal Hatuel-Radoshitzky interviews Dr. Sarah Feuer.
Special Podcast - The Directors of the Atlantic Council, the Emirates Policy Center, and INSS discuss the Abraham Accords and their regional outcomes
Episode 39
In this program, we are pleased to inaugurate our strategic partnership with the Atlantic Council in Washington, DC and the Emirates Policy Center in Abu Dhabi. In the spirit of the Abraham Accords, this trilateral strategic partnership will build on the momentum from the normalization process, and serve as a hub for those in the global think tank community who seek to contribute to UAE-Israel relations.
The executive director of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Maj. Gen. (ret.) Amos Yadlin, the president and CEO of the Atlantic Council, Mr. Fred Kempe, and the president of the Emirates Policy Center, Dr. Ebtesam al-Ketbi, examine the regional outcomes of normalizing Israel’s relations with the UAE and Bahrain – and the continuation of this process. What are the responses in the Arab Gulf states and in Iran? How might this momentum of peacemaking affect U.S. policy in the Middle East, after the presidential elections? What regional opportunities for Israel do these agreements create? How could the Abraham Accords contribute to cooperation on common security concerns? Might the current normalization process ultimately lead the return of Israel and the Palestinians to the negotiating table?
