August 11, 2021

Bahrain's Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Bahraini think tank Derasat, H.E. Sh. Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, visited the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) today, August 11, 2021. Accompanying the Undersecretary was Dr. Hamad Ebrahim Al-Abdulla, Executive Director of Derasat.

During the visit, the two think tanks signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation and closer ties between them, with the main objective to promote the long-term conditions for peace, security, and sustainable development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Commenting on the visit, H.E. Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said: "It is a pleasure to bring INSS with its reputation as a center for strategic research and analysis together with that of DERASAT. Peace, stability, and prosperity can only be achieved through regional and  international cooperation. Bahrain and Israel face common challenges, and it is now time to work together to bring hope to our peoples."

Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg, the Executive Director of INSS, said: "The decision by Bahrain and Israel to establish diplomatic relations was driven by the commitment of these two states to create a better future for the region. Relations are taking shape around a pragmatic vision for the region, based on a strategic shift. Last year saw important progress in building the infrastructure for multi-disciplinary cooperation between the states, and it is incumbent on us to thwart any efforts to sabotage these relations or prevent the progression of the Abraham Accords. We share interests in many realms, and I look forward to rapid progress in areas such as renewable energy, water resources, and environmental technology. I believe that the cooperation between INSS and Derasat can generate common policy guidelines to advance the shared interests that figure on our respective national security agendas and bring about peace and prosperity for all."
