On July 11, 2019, the INSS Terrorism and Low Intensity Conflict research program held a symposium entitled "Global Jihad: Exaggerated Threat or Time Bomb?" which discussed the following issues: the ideological roots and practical expressions of the Salafi jihadist worldview in its various forms; the current status of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq and of its partners outside the Mideast; the status of al-Qaeda and its network of alliances; and the Salafi jihadist threat from a regional perspective - the risk of the renewed activity by these parties in the region and around the world, and in particular, the potential threat they pose to Israel.
