Jan Solwyn is a research assistant at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS).
A former Captain with the German Federal Police, he brings 15 years of operational and tactical experience from domestic and international police missions.
He was deployed with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) on various operational levels at EU member state borders as well as in tactical and analytical positions at the International Coordination Center in Piraeus and the Frontex Headquarters in Warsaw. Furthermore, he served in the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine as a Planning, Analysis, and Coordination Expert and in the EU Border Assistance Mission Rafah as Border Police Expert.
He holds an M.A. in Political-Historical Studies from the University of Bonn. His master’s thesis on the historical roots of the Russian–Ukrainian conflict was published by the renowned Springer publishing house.
Jan is a recognized expert on security and migration policy and a bestselling book author in German speaking countries.
