Noy Shalev is a research assistant in the Israel-Palestinian Relations program at the Institute for National Security Studies. She holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies from the University of Haifa and is currently an undergraduate student in Psychology at the Open University.

A struggle is underway for control of Area C (60 percent of the West Bank). The Palestinians are eager to control the area, which they see as essential to a contiguous and viable Palestinian state. With the results of the recent Knesset elections, it appears that the idea of a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict will disappear from the official Israeli agenda, even though this entails public and political oblivion to the slide toward a one-state reality. What will a one-state reality look like, and how can the risk of a bilateral state be prevented, especially given that most of the public fears this scenario and is eager to preserve Israel’s underlying values as a Jewish, democratic, and secure state?
