Much attention should be given these days to three groups in the State of Israel: evacuees from the Gaza envelope, evacuees from the north, and the reservists. The population and communities that were hit in October in the Gaza envelope were given a solution that works very well, the Tekuma directorate, which has specific roles and goals, an extensive staff, and a defined budget.
Another directorate is needed immediately to attend to the north. About 60,000 people are displaced from their homes, enormous damage has been caused to the communities by Hezbollah fire, and there is major difficulty in cultivating the fields, taking care of the poultry sector, or operating factories. It is not clear why a similar administration for the north has not been established as per the demand of the population and the heads of the local authorities.
The third group comprises the reservists who were called up on October 7 and have been serving since then, some of them in combat. They require practical solutions, beyond the appropriate remuneration approved by the government. They need customized solutions in the workplace, studies, universities, family care, and some even for mental health care. A joint civilian and military body for in-depth attention to the reserve forces should be established – a body with responsibility, authority, and a proper budget.
Needed: three directorates for three populations that require through and comprehensive attention.
