The ceasefire in the war against Iran constitutes only another chapter in the confrontations between Israel and Hezbollah and does not yet mark its conclusion. Hezbollah ends this chapter with mixed results.
On the one hand, it succeeded in fulfilling the role intended for it by Iran in the war, by supporting it and dragging Israel into fighting on an additional front, while Israel invested all available means to fulfill its destiny against Iran. At the same time, this was also a way to preserve its survival while proving that it is still relevant, threatening, and cannot be easily defeated. And indeed, in the war, it showed that it is capable of recovering quickly despite the severe blows suffered from the IDF, and that it still constitutes a threatening factor to Israel's security as well as a deterrent factor against the Lebanese government, which has tried, without success so far, to disarm it.
On the other hand, Hezbollah also paid a heavy price in this war. Not only by the loss of its military operatives and its military equipment, and the severe damage to all its headquarters, facilities, and infrastructure throughout Lebanon, but also in that it failed to prevent the deepening of the IDF's presence in southern Lebanon and the expansion of its hold on the security zone along the border, and failed in its attempts to create new equations in the fighting against the IDF or to cause the displacement of northern residents. This, while causing additional destruction to Shiite villages in southern Lebanon and placing the burden of more than a million displaced persons on the Lebanese government. At the same time, criticism from extensive segments of the Lebanese public is deepening regarding the fact that Hezbollah involved the country in a war serving foreign interests and revealed even more its commitment to Iran and its involvement in Lebanon. In recent days, there is even a rumor that the extensive attack by the IDF yesterday thwarted Hezbollah's intentions to carry out a coup and seize control of the government institutions in Beirut.
Despite all this, it is not yet possible this time to eulogize Hezbollah. Even if the current campaign ends as Israel has already declared and proven in actions, it will not give up easily, and will return to invest, with Iran's assistance, in its rehabilitation and the strengthening of its status, and will act with determination to prevent the implementation of President Aoun's proposal to manage direct negotiations with Israel.
