Memorandum No. 147, Tel Aviv: Institute for National Security Studies, June 2015
This collection of articles, a joint publication of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) and the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is an outgrowth of a conference sponsored by the two institutes along with the Russia-Israel Business Council. The articles focus on two major issues related to cooperation between Russia and Israel. The first is the regional security situation in the Middle East and the interaction between Russia and Israel in this sphere. The second deals with the current status of the bilateral trade and future prospects for enhanced economic relations. Given today’s urgent challenges presented by the volatile Middle East, it is essential that Israel and Russia identify points of convergence in the political and security spheres.

This collection of articles, a joint publication of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) at Tel Aviv University and the Institute for Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (OSIRAS), is an outgrowth of a conference sponsored by the two institutes along with Russia-Israel Business Council (RIBC). The articles present appraisals by Israeli and Russian experts of the regional security situation in the Middle East and the interaction between Russia and Israel in this sphere, as well as the potential for Russian-Israeli trade and economic relations that has not yet been realized sufficiently.
This volume stems from the continued and close cooperation between INSS and OSIRAS. Both Institutes have pioneered a series of key strategic discussions between Russia and Israel via a series of conferences, bilateral meetings, and joint publications in order to review strategic outlines of bipartisanship between the two countries. The regular exchange of views contributes to further engagement between Russia and Israel.
