The report of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) released last week sharpens what we have known for a long time, and in this context contains no dramatic news. The US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement, with the encouragement of certain forces, has proven to be a strategic error. The nuclear program is at its most advanced point ever and is close to turning Iran into a nuclear threshold state. At the same time, there is no room for hysteria: Iran is not minutes or days away from a nuclear bomb, and even if the possibilities of dealing with it have been reduced, they still exist.
Israel must recalculate its route. It cannot repeat the same actions and expect different results. Israel must update its strategy in the fight against Iranian nuclear capability, because in all honesty, the current strategy, as evidenced by results, has led us to today’s dangerous situation. Less urgent issues should be put aside and the focus should be on intimate cooperation with the Americans at all levels, which includes covertly defining red lines that if crossed, require action. At the same time, experience shows that an agreement framework with countries that have a nuclear program is the preferred way to stop them. Therefore, it is to be hoped that Israel be kept in the picture regarding political contacts, as much as they exist, so that its interests are taken into account.
